Openly offers a Windstorm Mitigation discount in select states for properties where loss-reduction fixtures or construction techniques are installed. Where available, the option appears on the Property Review tab as a yes / no field. When applied, this discount generally reduces the portion of the premium attributable to wind, tornado, and hurricane coverage.
Required Documentation
To request discount eligibility, agents need to submit one of the following documents to uwdocs@openly.com:
- Mitigation Verification Affidavit: Accompanied by certified receipt copies (may be completed by the insured).
- Mitigation Verification Certification: Completed by a licensed building contractor, registered architect, professional engineer, or building code official.
- IBHS FORTIFIED Home™ Certificate: Issued to the policyholder.
Note: Depending on the specific windstorm mitigation type and protective devices selected, Openly may request both a Builder's Certification and an Affidavit Form.
Protective Device Categories
Upon selecting Yes to Wind Mitigation in the Agent Portal, select the category that best matches the property's features:
- Engineered: Permanently installed storm shutters (including aluminum / steel panels, accordion, roll-down, colonial, Bahama, awning, or clam shell) installed by a licensed contractor to meet International Building Code (IBC) or equivalent standards. Garage doors should be hurricane-resistant or retrofitted with bracing to resist deflection and wind-borne debris.
- Impact Resistant Glass: Hurricane-resistant glass installed by a licensed contractor to meet IBC or equivalent standards. Garage doors should be hurricane-resistant or retrofitted with bracing to resist deflection and wind-borne debris.
- Non-Engineered: Plywood shutters, other temporary coverings, or none.
