Boat Dock Coverage

Openly offers coverage for boat docks located on the insured residence premises. How a dock is covered depends entirely on its construction, permanence, and its attachment to the waterbed.

Before binding or adjusting a policy, review the classifications below to ensure the property's limits are appropriately designated.

Boat Dock Classifications

Permanent Docks

Also referred to as standing or non-floating docks, these structures are fixed, permanent installations built on top of pilings that are secured directly into the ground beneath the water.

  • Policy Placement: Because these are permanent fixtures attached to the land, they are covered under Coverage B (Other Structures). Ensure your Coverage B limits adequately cover the structure's Replacement Cost.

Floating Docks

These are buoyant docks supported by flotation devices that rest freely on the water’s surface. This classification also applies to mobile, ramped, or modular docks that can be completely taken out of the water, stored for the winter, or rearranged.

  • Policy Placement: Because these structures are detached, mobile, or modular, they are classified as unattached movable items and are covered under Coverage C (Personal Property)
