Openly policies accommodate short-term rental activities—such as hosting through Airbnb® or Vrbo®—via the optional Home-Sharing Participation Endorsement. Standard homeowner policies may restrict coverage for home-sharing activities if this endorsement is not selected. The Home-Sharing Participation Endorsement can be found on the Coverage tab under Additional Coverages.
Coverage
- Scope: Extends liability, property, and loss of use protections during active short-term rental arrangements.
- Liability Coverage: Extends Bodily Injury and Property Damage coverage for claims arising out of home-sharing activities.
- Other Structures (Coverage B): Extends Coverage B protection to detached structures utilized for home-sharing, such as standalone guest houses or converted detached garages.
- Landlord Furnishings: Extends Landlord Furnishing Coverage to home-sharing items, capped at a $2,500 limit.
- Loss of Use (Coverage D): Applies Coverage D protection when home-sharing contracts are canceled due to official hurricane warnings issued by the National Weather Service.
Exclusions
- Traditional Bed & Breakfasts: Commercial B&B operations are ineligible for this endorsement.
- Multi-Family Dwellings: Multi-family homes are typically excluded, subject to state-specific exceptions (such as Connecticut).
- Unendorsed Home-Sharing: Short-term rental activities conducted without selecting this endorsement remain subject to standard policy limitations and exclusions.
