How Do I Change the Agent of Record or Broker of Record on a Policy?

We are happy to assist in changing the Agent or Broker of Record on a policy. If you need to change the Agent of Record before a policy has been issued, then directions are in our article, How Do I Bind a Policy With a Different Agent of Record?

Agent of Record (AOR)

An Agent of Record change updates the agent listed on the policy to another agent within the same agency. The policyholder will be assigned a new agent, but the policy will reflect the same agency’s information / agency short ID code.

There is no waiting period for an Agent of Record change.

To process one, the Customer Experience Team needs the following information:

  • The customer’s name
  • The policy number
  • The new agent’s name
  • The effective date of the change

If more than five (5) policies need to be revised, submit the request to your Agency Success Manager.

For five (5) or fewer, the Agency Principal or the current Agent of Record must submit a request with the new Agent's information via our webform.

Should you wish to make the change yourself on a policy, as the current agent or as an Agency Admin, you can read our article, How Do I Update the Agent of Record?

Broker of Record (BOR)

A Broker of Record change is updating the Agency listed on the policy to another Agency. The new agency is requesting the policy be placed under their brokerage. The policyholder will be assigned a new agent, and the policy will reflect the new agency’s information/agency code.

A ten (10) day waiting period is required to allow the policyholder to submit a rescindment request. The policyholder must send the request via our webform.

Commissions will honor the BOR's effective date. If the BOR's effective date is after the effective date of the policy term, the previous agency will receive the commission, and the current agency will earn a commission on any new activity. For further information about commissions, read our article, How Do I Find Out Information About Commissions?

To process one, the Customer Experience Team needs the following information filled out in the Acord Form attached below:

  • The new agency name
  • The policy number
  • The new producer’s name
  • The new agency’s code
  • The effective date of the change
  • The customer's address, signature, and date

Send either type of request to us via our webform.
