Watercraft Coverage

Watercraft or supplementary boat hull coverage is an optional add-on for HO-5 policies in select states. It provides extra money to repair or replace a boat if it is damaged. Insureds can find coverage up to $10,000 for boats up to 26 feet long, along with coverage for other property including:

  • Trailers
  • Furnishings
  • Accessories
  • Equipment
  • Parts
  • Outboard engines or motors owned by the insured

This endorsement is only available for HO-5 policies in select states. If you do not see it as an option on the Coverage tab, it is not currently available in your state.

Coverages

Personal Liability (Coverage E) and Medical Payments to Others (Coverage F) apply to watercraft. However, they do not apply if the boat is used for:

  • Racing: Organized speed contests (though sailing races are still covered)
  • Renting: Letting others pay to use the boat
  • Charging for Rides: Using the boat like a taxi for people or cargo
  • Work Tasks: Use by employees whose main job is to handle the boat

Exclusions

Watercraft/supplementary boat hull does not cover the following:

  • Watercraft over 26 feet in length
  • Personal watercraft (e.g., jet skis)
  • Trailers not designated or principally used to transport watercraft
  • Moorings, slips, or docks
  • Equipment that is not normally used to operate or maintain your watercraft
  • Fishing tackle
  • Property used at any time or in any manner for any "business" purpose
  • Damages from wear and tear, rot, animal, freezing.

Openly will pay the total loss amount minus a $250 deductible. This coverage does not trigger any other policy deductibles.
