A policy’s effective date refers to the date coverage begins for a home. Agents can modify this while quoting or request changes for active policies in the Agent Portal.
Quotes
Effective dates for quotes can be modified on the Property tab. Enter the date and click Next. Note the latest policy effective date shown; if the policy is not issued on or before this date, the quote may expire, which typically requires starting a new quote.
Issued Policies
Policy dates can only be updated for issued policies that are not yet effective. Outside of that timeframe, contact the Customer Experience team via webform or Live Chat to request assistance.
To initiate the effective date change, follow these steps:
- Search for the policy and click View.
-
Select Policy Actions.
-
Choose Change Endorsement.
-
Select the effective date and click Create.
- Click Next to proceed.
-
The Review tab displays relevant policy information. Click Issue to confirm the update and generate updated documentation.
- Select View Documents to review the updated policy paperwork.
Policy Effective Dates and Premium Changes
By default, the system sets a new quote's effective date to eight days after the creation date. Setting an effective date at least eight days in advance generally offers customers more competitive rates. Moving an effective date to within eight days of the quote creation date may increase the premium.
Quote Expiration and Rewrites
-
Quote Validity: Quotes typically remain valid for 45 days. The expiration date can be tracked in the Agent Portal during quoting or on the Summary tab for issued policies.
