Reinstating Policies

Policies canceled for non-payment may be eligible for reinstatement up to 60 days from the cancellation date. All reinstatements require a manual review to determine eligibility. Follow these steps to reinstate policies:

Step 1: Submit a Review Request

To begin the process, submit a request via our webform. Use the following dropdown selections to ensure your request is routed to the correct team. When the form is completed, click Submit Request.

Step 2: Follow Reinstatement Instructions

If the policy is deemed eligible for reinstatement, the requester will receive an email with specific instructions based on how long the policy has been lapsed:

  • Lapses of 0–7 Days: Full payment only.
    • Process: An ePay link will be sent along with your instruction email.
  • Lapses of 8–60 Days: *Full payment and a signed Statement of No Loss (SONL).
    • Process: An ePay link will be sent in the confirmation email. You can use the SONL form attached to that email or download the blank form provided at the bottom of this article.
    • Note: To process the reinstatement, both the payment and the signed SONL must be completed on the same calendar date.

Policies Ineligible for Reinstatement

For policies reviewed and deemed ineligible for reinstatement, agents may be able to re-quote the risk in the portal. Please keep the following in mind:

  • Future Effective Dates: New quotes must use a future effective date. Openly cannot backdate an effective date on a new policy to cover a lapse from a previously canceled policy.
  • Does Not Qualify (DNQ): If a new quote results in a Does Not Qualify status, you may try creating a new quote using a second named insured’s information. This may yield a different result or premium. Premiums cannot be adjusted, and DNQ statuses cannot be overridden.

If you have any additional questions about Openly’s quoting, cancellation, or reinstatement process, contact us via our webform, Live Chat, or your Agency Success Manager.
